My name actually isn’t Larold. It’s actually Larry. But i’ve grown to like (and prefer) being called Larold online. I’m a web developer out of Central Florida, US. I’ve dabbled around in a lot of different game development technologies. To list some:
- Adobe Flash (obsolete)
- Microsoft XNA (obsolete)
- HTML5
- RPG Maker
- Game Maker (a long long time ago)
- Unreal Engine
- Unity
Game development is one of my primary hobbies. Whenever i get bored of a project, i usually go start another one. I have a horrible habit of not finishing things, but it’s actually helped me learn a lot over the years. I’m also very interested in Web Development, and Graphic Design. Eventually i might make a website/channel about that.
The future of the Gameyard
I initially made “Larold’s Jubilant Junkyard” without any specific vision. It would serve as a home for various “Junk” I make. Making Game Boy games just happened to be the first thing. As time matured, I decided I would fully devote “The Junkyard” to retro game development. So I re-branded as “Larold’s Retro Gameyard” to better reflect my vision.
The first phase of the Gameyard will center around Game Boy Game Development. Of course, this will be featuring the GBDK-2020. You can find it here on github.
Eventually, i want to create a full step-by-step course, and maybe even a book on it. Those are far off though, i still need to brainstorm what will make them worth while (versus free content on my site).
I did a quick poll on my YouTube channel, and the next venture will be The Game Boy Advance. The other alternative, which still later want to do is the Sega Genesis/Mega drive. In addition, since i’ve found the Game Boy Homebrew community; i’ve become interested in doing it for other consoles like:
- Sega Dreamcast
- Nintendo 64
- Sega Genesis/Mega drive
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System
- Playstation
Those might be pretty far out. However, If that sounds like something interesting to you, definitely subscribe to my YouTube channel and The Junkyard newsletter to stay up-to-date.
